"When asked in early 2009, "would I be interested in forming a 'Male Voice Choir?" my initial feeling was one of trepidation. To explain this feeling I need to say something about my musical background.

I suppose you might call me a sort of 'instinctively creative musician' playing church organ, guitar and piano and yes even the recorder (not all at once!), all of which 'self-taught' but above all I enjoyed teaching children & adults to sing, but a male voice choir!!

But what a truly wonderful experience it is to stand in front of a bunch of 40 or more men from all ages, walks of life and with no audition requirements coming together to make music.

My aim for The Sussex Gruffs is to keep this enjoyment of singing combined with the special almost unique comradery that our choir has, by introducing music that they want and like, and to cross as many musical bridges as possible, and a quick look at our repertoire will illustrate this!"
