Musical Director Howard Wilkie B.A. (Hons)

Howard joined the Sussex Gruffs Male Voice Choir as musical director in May 2016. His appointment followed a successful five years as MD with the Solent Male Voice Choir. His previous experiences provides him with the ability to get the best from our choir by using his charm, sharp
wit and insistence that we “get the right notes in the right order”

Howard's love of music comes from his days at St Olave's Grammar School in London which then, as now, had a large and flourishing music tradition. After a three year specialist music course at Newton Park College Bath, Howard taught in a number of schools, finally spending many years as Head of Music at Ventnor Middle School on the Isle of Wight. He is also an experienced choral conductor and has directed many productions of operetta, musical theatre and pantomime.

In recent years Howard's conducting has taken him many parts of Britain and Europe. He is a busy music teacher and also organist and choir director of Bembridge Parish Church. As a member of the Association of British Choral Directors for many years, he has studied conducting and taken part in masterclasses. After more than five successful years at the helm of the Solent Male Voice Choir, he is thrilled to have been appointed Musical Director of the Sussex Gruffs.
